HowTo: OS X Take a Screenshot On My Mac Desktop

There are several ways to take a screenshot on an Apple macOS desktop:

  1. To capture the entire screen:
  • Press Command + Shift + 3

This will save a screenshot of the entire screen as a .png file on the desktop.

  1. To capture a specific window:
  • Press Command + Shift + 4
  • Press the Space bar
  • Click on the window you want to capture

This will save a screenshot of the selected window as a .png file on the desktop.

  1. To capture a specific area of the screen:
  • Press Command + Shift + 4
  • Drag the crosshair cursor to select the area you want to capture

This will save a screenshot of the selected area as a .png file on the desktop.
